Fifth-grade content standards focus on the United States from the prehistoric period to the Industrial Revolution. Instruction addresses the strands of economics, geography, history, and civics and government from the earliest times through the formation and growth of the nation to the latter part of the nineteenth century with an emphasis on the development of the American Republic. Students also become familiar with major events in the periods of the American Revolution, the Westward Expansion, the Civil War, and Reconstruction.
Homework: students are expected to participate in class each day to keep up with daily work. Each two - three week social studies unit will have an assignment to be completed. Each assignment will be posted on Edmodo with directions. Most (if not all) daily assignments and projects should be able to be completed in class. If not, homework time should be used to complete.
Grading:
Grades will be comprised of classwork, tests, and homework. Each social studies standard will be assessed per HCS pacing guide. Check your the grades posted in I-NOW to keep track of your child's successes.
